If approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, SUD agencies will be eligible to be reimbursed an originating site fee for acting as an originating site for telehealth and telemedicine services. Sites already eligible to be reimbursed for acting as an originating site include the office of a physician or other licensed practitioner, outpatient hospitals, critical access hospitals, rural health clinics, federally qualified health centers, Indian Health Service (IHS) clinics, community mental health centers, nursing facilities, and school districts.
The State Plan Amendment is available for public comment for 30 days on the Department of Social Services’ website.
More information about telehealth services is available in the South Dakota Medicaid Telemedicine Services Billing and Policy Manual.
