Welcome The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society

SDAHO would like to welcome our newest members, The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society. Since 1922, The organization has sought to create environments where people feel loved, valued and at peace. As the largest not-for-profit provider of senior services and housing in the United States, they provide employment for over 21,000 staff members in locations across 24 states. In South Dakota, they have 16 nursing homes, as well as senior living facilities and home health/hospice services.

The first Good Samaritan Society center opened in a rented six-room house in Arthur, N.D., in March 1923, designed for those with a physical or mental disability. It was soon discovered that services were needed for the elderly in addition to those with disabilities, which prompted the organization to expand it’s services. Today in addition to long-term care centers, the organization services include: telehealth and home healthcare, subsidized housing, senior housing, assisted living, post-acute care, therapy and rehabilitation services, hospice care, and specialized care for people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

In 2019, The Good Samaritan Society officially combined with Sanford Health. The Good Samaritan Society continues to evolve to meet the needs and desires of the residents, staff members and communities it serves. SDAHO welcomes our newest member, the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society.
