The South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations welcomes Michelle Hofer! Michelle recently joined SDAHO as the Clinical Improvement Consultant. Within the position, Michelle will work with hospital staff and physicians, throughout SD and western MN, helping to educate and guide them on best practices and quality measures to improve care, patient experiences and processes in their facilities.
Michelle has over 21 years of healthcare experience as a registered nurse. Michelle served as a neonatal intensive care nurse at Sioux Valley (now Sanford Health). While with Sioux Valley, Michelle was also involved with pharmaceutical research, and was instrumental in carrying out protocols for investigational medications. She has also worked for various clinics, and in home health and hospice care. Michelle has been the clinical supervisor at Huron Medical Center in home health and hospice, and a community health nurse for the State of South Dakota.
In her new role as Clinical Improvement Consultant, Michelle will work remotely from Huron. “I am excited to meet the staff at hospitals, and to see how together we can learn from each other, to improve health outcomes for people that are being cared for.” One of Michelle’s first projects will be to assist with our state’s opioid crisis. SDAHO was recently awarded a grant from the SD Department of Health through the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to assist with opioid addiction in South Dakota.
Michelle was born and raised in Hazel, South Dakota. She attended South Dakota State University in Brookings where she earned her bachelor’s degree in science with a major in nursing. Michelle has three children, and when she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, attending her children’s activities, reading, watching movies, tent camping, and traveling.
