Registration for the 2022 South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) Nurse Leadership Program is now open.
The Nurse Leadership Program is a customized education program designed to equip hospital and long-term care nurse leaders with the training and core competencies they need to be successful in a nurse leadership role. This exceptional program helps professionals make a successful transition from clinical care to the role of a professional executive nurse leader.
On November 18, 2021, Nurse Leadership participants gathered in Pierre for the last in-person session of 2021 and to celebrate the 2021 Nurse Leadership graduates. Katelyn DeLange is the Director of Nursing at Douglas Memorial Hospital in Armour South Dakota and is a 2021 Nurse Leadership graduate. Katelyn began her leadership role at the age of 24 and was looking for more than a one-day conference to help build her leadership skills. She says SDAHO’s year-long nurse leadership program was exactly what she needed. “The confidence I have gained because of this program and my co-participants is incredible. I can confidently say, now that I am 29 years old, and I am the Director of Nursing and I no longer worry that people think I am inadequate to do this job because of my age.” – Katelyn DeLange, Dir. The training is designed to give nurse leaders education that can be applied immediately to their role. Education will be taught by USD faculty who have professional experience within healthcare management and understand the struggles faced by nurse leaders today. Lindsey Poeppel is the Director of Nursing at Faulkton Area Medical Center. Lindsey says she was able to apply many of the skills she learned while interacting with her own healthcare team, which benefited staff and patients. Professionals who attend this program will build skills and confidence in leadership, critical thinking, conflict management, effective team building, and change management. The program will combine lecture, discussion, networking, and opportunities to interact with nurse leaders and other resource experts. Amanda Dolphin took on her first leadership role as the Assistant Director of Nursing at Avera Prince of Peace this past year. Amanda participated in the 2021 Nurse Leadership program to help her be a more effective leader in her new role. “The knowledge that I learned helped me grow in every conversation that I had going forward. The nurse leadership program is available to South Dakota nurse leaders within hospitals and nursing home settings, which will run January through October, 2022.
The program Includes five executive leadership training sessions presented by USD Beacom School of Business faculty, in-person leadership & operation session led by USD Beacom School of Business faculty, in-person regulatory & advocacy session, and registration to SDAHO’s Partners in Care Conference & Annual Convention.
