Upcoming Webinars – Prevention of Pressure Injuries, Avoiding CMP’s, Compassion Fatigue

​SDAHO is excited to share our education and professional development opportunities for the month of February.  As a reminder, all SDAHO-hosted virtual education will be provided to SDAHO members for no additional cost and these opportunities will be housed on SDAHO’s Member Portal. Call to Freedom: Human Trafficking | February 8, 11am CST 

This webinar aims at bringing awareness to the issue of human trafficking in South Dakota by empowering healthcare professionals to take a stand. The topics covered will address just how prevalent human trafficking is in South Dakota, indicators to observe in the clinical setting, and the complex trauma survivors experience. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of human trafficking as a whole, as well as services available for victims and survivors to start their healing journey after identification. The COVID-19 Pandemic has further challenged long-term care facilities to make modifications to their day-to-day routines in ways that significantly influence residents’ psychosocial well-being, mood, and behavior. Keys to Avoiding and Defending Civil Monetary Penalties in Skilled Nursing | February 15, 11am CST

Cited, then fined. Ugh. Navigating the terrain of Civil Monetary Penalties (CMPs) can be challenging. This session will review CMS authority to impose a CMP and the factors used by CMS in assessing CMPs against facilities. Session will review how CMPs are calculated and the basic amounts of CMPs. Can they be increased or decreased? When are CMPs actually collected? What are the appeal options through Informal Dispute Resolution (IDR), Independent Informal Dispute Resolution (IIDR) and Departmental Appeal Board (DAB)? Participants attending this webinar will review each process, as well as factors to consider in assessing your CMPs case and possible appeals. CE’s: NHA & SW
This course will provide participants with what causes and puts residents at risk for pressure injuries and skin breakdown. How to perform a skin assessment and what to report. This course will review preventative interventions and the role of the caregivers and front line staff. CE’s: NHA & SW

Compassion Fatigue | February 22, 1pm CST

Working in the healthcare setting can be physically and mentally exhausting. This presentation emphasizes the importance of self care to promote wellness. Learning objectives aim to strengthen the understanding of how work stress impacts compassion fatigue, identify warning signs, coping mechanisms, and self awareness to promote overall self care and wellness. The presentation will be an overview of suicide prevention programming and resources in South Dakota. It will review of the goals, objectives, and strategies outlined in the Suicide Prevention Strategic plan, statewide suicide data as well as statewide campaigns and resources available.
