South Dakota Ends Year with $115M Surplus

This week, the Interim Joint Committee on Appropriations heard testimony from the Bureau of Finance and Management (BFM) about the Fiscal Year 2022 year end surplus of 115 million dollars. Total general fund revenue for fiscal year 2022 finished $72.3 million higher than adopted estimates, and the state general fund budget ended with expenses $43.2 million less than budgeted. BFM also presented on updated Fiscal Year 2023 revenue estimates. Currently, they are projecting a 3.34% increase in in total ongoing receipts, which is roughly 69 million dollars.
