Giving Life to Final Dreams

Nearly everyone has heard of Make-a-Wish, the non-profit organization that grants “wishes” to children with critical illnesses. Not as many people are aware of The Dream Foundation, a non-profit organization that serves terminally ill adults and their families by providing end of life Dreams that offer inspiration, comfort, and closure.

Through a network of nationwide volunteers, organizations, businesses and donors, many kinds of dreams are made to come true. Dreams can be simple, like getting an iPad so a recipient can facetime with family or big, like going to the ocean one more time with your spouse. There are a few dreams that cannot be fulfilled, but the organization has been able to make many types of dreams come true since it started in 1994.

Perhaps your team is working with a patient/family that has shared a dream with you. You now know of an organization to which you can refer. Qualifications of the recipients:

  • Live in the United States, including Alaska, Hawaii & Puerto Rico
  • Are 18 and older
  • Have a life limiting illness with a life expectancy of 12 months or less
  • Lack the resources to fulfill the Dream themselves.

If you work with veterans, they have a special Dreams for Veterans program. Same qualifications for this program but they must also provide proof of U.S. military service or current active duty. Applications can be filled out on or downloaded from their website.
