SDAHO Hosts 2024 MBQIP Workshop

The South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) Quality Integration Department hosted the 2nd Annual MBQIP Workshop titled: Building Success. This one-day event was made possible in part with grant funding from the South Dakota Department of Health, Office of Rural Health, Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Grant Program (FLEX).

The event took place in Sioux Falls and brought together quality professionals from our state’s critical access hospitals. The workshop provided the opportunity for attendees to connect 1:1 with SDAHO’s Quality Consultants, Michelle Hofer and Loretta Bryan, in addition to network with other quality professionals from across South Dakota.

Courtnay Ryan, with Telligen spoke at this year’s workshop. Ryan, has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry and supports long-term care facilities with quality measure reporting, teaches quality improvement methodologies, assists the Learning and Action Network (LAN) QIN-QIO strategy for events and provides technical assistance. Ryan presented four of the morning sessions that included:

  • The Future of MBQIP: Are You Ready?
  • A Dive into Emergency Department Transfer Communication (EDTC)
  • Using your MBQIP Data Report to Inform Your Quality Improvement Project
  •  MBQIP Therapy

Psychological Safety was another session presented during the workshop featuring Molly Mackey, with LEAderRNship Institute. Molly is the founder and chief learning officer of the LEAdeRNship Institute. She holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Iowa and a Certified Professional of Talent Development (CPTD) from the Association of Talent Development. In late 2023 and early 2024 Molly gained Artificial Intelligence (AI) certifications from LinkedIn Learning and IBM.

Surveyor Preparedness, presented by Jean Koch, with the SD Department of Health ended this year’s workshop. Jean has 29 years of nursing experience with 12 years as a Senior Health Facilities Surveyor and three years as the Acute Care Public Health Advisor. Previously Jean was the Medicare and Rehabilitation Case Manager and MDS Director for GSS Corsica for over a decade, demonstrating her passion and commitment to promoting and protecting the health of South Dakota’s most vulnerable.

This year’s workshop was a success, Becky Heisinger is the Director of Quality Integration with SDAHO. “Our Quality Consultants Michelle Hofer and Loretta Bryan work with our member Quality Professionals daily, providing them support and resources. We are grateful for all who could join us for this year’s workshop and grateful for the partnership between SDAHO and our state’s FLEX Grant program who made this event possible.”
