Overview:
We will examine the effects of direct and indirect trauma. In helping roles, there is a close connection between yourselves and those you serve. This relationship may expose you to the distress and pain experienced by others, however, it may be strengthened through empathy and a desire to alleviate pain and suffering. We will examine the risks and recognition of trauma exposure, the ethical imperative of self-care, as well as coping strategies that contribute to health, well-being and resilience.
Objectives:
- Understand the risk of indirect exposure to trauma.
- Discuss the ethical imperative of self-care.
- Identify coping strategies that contribute to health and well-being.
- Develop personal strategies to strengthen resilience.
