A new cyber attack group known as Orangeworm has been observed installing malicious software via a custom backdoor within large international corporations that operate in the health care sector in the U.S., Europe and Asia, cybersecurity software company Symantec announced Monday.
Known victims include health care providers, pharmaceutical companies, health care information technology solution providers and medical device and equipment manufacturers. Hospitals should ensure anti-virus and intrusion prevention systems are updated and medical devices are effectively patched to mitigate this threat.
