Event Details

Overview:

Many clinicians have difficulty differentiating lower extremity ulcers (arterial, venous, or neuropathy/diabetic) from pressure injuries.  If a lower extremity ulcer is mistaken as a pressure injury it can lead to improper treatment of these areas and skew your pressure injury rates. This session will help clinicians differentiate arterial insufficient ulcers, venous stasis ulcers and peripheral neuropathic/diabetic ulcers from pressure injuries and discuss how assessment and treatment strategies differ for each of these wound categories.

Objectives:
  • Distinguish etiologies of lower extremity ulcers
  • Define the characteristics of venous, arterial, and peripheral neuropathy/diabetic ulcers
  • Describe effective strategies to manage lower extremity ulcers
