In this session, we aim to raise awareness about domestic violence and provide crucial information to combat this societal issue. During the session, we will delve into the mission of The Network, who they are, and the important work they do to address domestic violence. The session will cover what constitutes domestic violence and the laws that govern it. The goal of this webinar is to equip attendees with knowledge and resources to create a safer and more supportive environment for victims. We will provide resources on the process of applying for protection orders and the laws that provide rights to victims.

Presenter: Mike McCormick, The South Dakota Network Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault

Mike McCormick is a life-long advocate for vulnerable people. He grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and still thinks of it as home. He now lives in Rapid City with his wife, Chris, whom he has been married to for 36 years. He has two sons- Rheider and Connor. Mike graduated from Minot State University with a degree in Developmental Disabilities and Coaching. He also graduated from the Music Technical Institute in Minneapolis. He advocated in the field of developmental disabilities for twenty years before joining the Pennington County States Attorney’s Office in 2012. He worked for the States Attorney’s Office as the Domestic Violence Victims’ Advocate until he was promoted to the position of Director of Victim’s Assistance. Mike loves music, especially rock and roll. In his free time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, playing the drums, riding his motorcycle and going to concerts. His absolute favorite thing to do is to ride his Harley to concerts. In September of 2022 he joined the South Dakota Network against Family Violence and Sexual Assault.
