Overview: 

This presentation will inform attendees about the current high-priority regulatory issues that are receiving focus from surveyors, and explain why these areas are under increased scrutiny. It will also discuss the recurring challenges that most acute care and critical access hospitals struggle with and provide rationale from Chartis consultants as to why these issues continue to pose vulnerabilities. The presentation will also offer solutions to remediate these challenges to achieve long-term survey success. Current regulatory agency target areas and trends will be discussed and analyzed with the audience in an open forum, allowing for questions and answers from the field. The webinar will focus on CMS and Accreditation hot topics and explore proactive strategies to identify and successfully address these high-priority issues.

Presenters: Bud Pate and Kim Wilson, Chartis Clinical Quality Solutions

Bud began his career in Public Health in 1973. By the time Bud joined Kaiser Foundation Hospitals in 1988 he was responsible for state licensing and CMS survey activities for all non-long-term care providers/suppliers in Los Angeles County, the worlds 9th largest healthcare market. During his 15 years at Kaiser Bud was responsible for hospital licensure, certification, and accreditation throughout Southern California. Bud joined Greeley, now part of Chartis, in 2004 where he and Lisa Eddy developed Greeley’s Clinical Compliance and High Reliability practice: the nation’s preeminent clinical compliance consulting group. Bud has lectured at many national conferences (including those sponsored IHI, APIC, ACHCE, ENA, ABA, and NAHQ), authored seven books on quality, safety, and compliance, and represented the American Hospital Association on various Joint Commission committees.

Kim Wilson is a Senior Consultant for Chartis Clinical Quality Solutions (CCQS) with more than 25 years of experience in clinical nursing, leadership, regulatory compliance, and informatics. Kim’s proven approach to simplification and process redesign benefits her clients in a variety of areas. She expertly guides them through survey readiness assessments for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and The Joint Commission (TJC).
