Impaired circulation and bony deformities make lower extremity wounds difficult to heal and recommended interventions are often rejected. This webinar evaluates treatment of arterial, pressure-related, edema-related and neuropathic wounds of the lower leg, ankle and foot and provides an updated look at products and treatments that help with healing.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Summarize four key assessment points for lower extremity wounds.
  • Examine three methods for decreasing bacterial load in high-risk wounds.
  • Analyze optimal dressing choices based on wound depth and exudate amount.
  • Contrast classic and disposable negative pressure wounds therapy options.

Joan Junkin provides clinical consults for long-term care and hospice in Nebraska and teaches as a clinical associate for University of Nebraska College of Nursing in Lincoln. She began her wound specialty as a research analyst for the pressure ulcer guideline treatment panel in 1992. During her 10 years as an acute care wound clinical nurse specialist, she conducted and published research and served as chair of the national accreditation committee for the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society educational programs. Junkin has published articles in several peer reviewed journals and has presented seminars to professionals in all 50 states and four Canadian provinces.
