SDAHO Receives Excellence in Partnership Award

The Workplace Partnership for Life Campaign (WPFL) is a national initiative that unites the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the organ donation community with workplaces throughout the nation to spread the word about the importance of donation.

Since 2014, the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) has been a recipient of the Excellence in Partnership award for efforts involved in WPFL from LifeSource, an organ procurement organization serving Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and portions of western Wisconsin.

Partners include local, regional, and national companies, associations, unions, and academic, volunteer, philanthropic, and community-focused organizations of all kinds. Their shared goal is promoting a “donation-friendly America” by fostering organ donation education and creating opportunities for individuals to sign up to save lives.

Despite the challenges faced by the healthcare community – organizations like LifeSource are seeing record numbers in organ donations. Sheena Thomas, SDAHO’s Content Specialist, has been part of the Workplace Partnership for Life Campaign for the past five years and feels grateful to have the opportunity to share information about the services LifeSource provides. “It’s very important work that they do. It’s good that we can help get their name out there and talk about the services they provide. We are grateful to have our partnership with LifeSource and it’s an honor to be recognized.”

For the past 6-years, SDAHO earned recognition for their education efforts about organ, eye and tissue donations. In 2020, for the tenth year in a row, organ donations from deceased donors in the United States set an all-time record. Over twelve thousand people provided one or more organs to save and enhance the lives of others. Thomas says, “It’s important people know and understand what being an organ donor is and how it works, SDAHO is proud to be part of that education.” SDAHO welcomed the LifeSource Team earlier this month to accept the Excellence in Partnerships Award.
