SDAHO Education will provide opportunities for members to receive education, information and resources on topics designed to develop skills in leadership, manage current clinical, regulatory and compliance risks, educate on board responsibilities, and provide mental and emotional support for healthcare providers. All educational opportunities on this portal are included in membership dues. There are no additional registration fees for these webinars. Prior registration for sessions is required to ensure connection information is received prior to the session.

STEP 3:  Make sure to ‘Add to calendar’ to remind you of the event. Once the calendar invite appears, select ‘Save & Close’ and this should now appear on your calendar.

Instructions to Submit Continuing Education

SDAHO is an approved provider of continuing education hours for nursing home administrators and social workers. General continuing education credits can be provided for any participants. CE links will be available after the live session when the session recording is made available on the portal.

SDAHO is the South Dakota affiliate of LeadingAge, an approved provider of continuing education in nursing home administration by the South Dakota Board of Nursing Facility Administrators.

SDAHO is approved as a provider for continuing education by the South Dakota Board of Social Work Examiners, 135 East Illinois, Suite 214, Spearfish, SD 57783, SDBSWE. Provider #1012.

Education approved for continuing education will be identified on the facility portal by the following notation: NHA CE’s = Nursing Home Administrator continuing education or SW CE’s = Social Work continuing education.

Instructions:

  • Click on the Recordings Section.
  • Click on CEU attestation link.
  • Complete form information (example below) and select ‘Submit’.

  • A continuing education certificate will then be sent to the email address provided on the attestation form “Michella Sybesma via Smartsheet <automation@app.smartsheet.com>” This process can take up to 20 minutes. The certificate will be coming from. If after 20 minutes you do not receive the certificate, please check your spam folder or email sheena.thomas@sdaho.org. Below is an example of a certificate email.

Amy Tepp, CPA, Partner-in-Charge of Revenue Cycle Services, Eide Bailly

Amy has more than 30 years of experience in health care finance, leadership, reimbursement, revenue cycle, and compliance. She has worked as a Medicare auditor; director of reimbursement, revenue integrity, & regulatory review and analysis; compliance officer and consultant. Amy is the Partner-in-Charge of Revenue Cycle within health care consulting for Eide Bailly. She assists providers by developing solutions focusing on revenue cycle process optimization, Chargemaster development, pricing transparency strategy, compliance program assessment and compliance audit function. Amy is located in the Eide Bailly Minneapolis, MN office.

Anna Meyer, Clinical Pharmacy Supervisor, Avera Long-Term Care Pharmacy

Anna Meyer, PharmD is the Clinical Pharmacy Supervisor for the Avera Long-Term Care Pharmacy and has been a consultant pharmacist for over 5 years.  In her role she is responsible for developing clinical and educational initiatives designed to optimize drug therapy in the elderly in both the nursing home and assisted living settings.  Anna is an active member of the Statewide Antibiotic Stewardship Collaborative in South Dakota and Minnesota and also serves as a preceptor with the South Dakota State University (SDSU) College of Pharmacy and as adjunct associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice in the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions.

Annette Lee, Provider Insights, Inc.

Annette Lee is a registered nurse practicing since 1990, with the majority of her nursing experience in public health care, and has a Master’s in Health Care Administration. In 2000 she joined the home health intermediary Cahaba GBA where she became a Medical Review instructor, providing education to home health and hospice providers on Medicare reimbursement issues and effective documentation strategies. After nearly a decade working for the intermediary, she began Provider Insights, Inc. In the private sector, she was able to provide insights into Medicare regulations and how to make them work for agencies on a day-to-day basis to both increase quality and reduce risk. Most recently, CGS contracted Provider Insights, Inc to perform all of the MAC’s clinical education for home health and hospice providers. Her broad experiences make her uniquely able to provide practical solutions to meet the requirements of the fiscal intermediary system and medical review within the “real world” environment of hospice and home health. She presents nationally on Hospice, LCDs, Home Health coverage, OASIS, PPS, medical review/appeals, documentation and coverage.

Barbara Johnson, Senior Revenue Cycle Consultant, ParaRev

Barbara’s healthcare career spans many years as a nurse, nursing supervisor, and nurse manager. A career move several years ago brought her to the Revenue Integrity Department where she gained knowledge in billing and coding. Combining these career experiences has given her a vast knowledge of healthcare from the clinical perspective to the regulatory world.

Barbara Speedling, Quality of Life Specialist, Innovations for Quality Living

An inspirational and motivational speaker, Barbara is an author, educator and management consultant at the forefront of person-centered care.

An innovator with more than 30 years of practical experience within the adult care community, she is the expert providers turn to when they want to ensure that the services they provide meet not only the physical needs of their residents, but their emotional and psychosocial needs as well.

Working from a core belief in the dignity and individuality of all people, Barbara’s unique education and training programs have helped countless adult care communities achieve lasting improvements in quality care and quality of life.

Becky Heisinger, Director of Quality Integration, SDAHO

Becky Heisinger, Director of Quality Integration at SDAHO, has over 14 years of grant management experience. She has managed federal, federal pass through, state and private foundation grants covering the full life cycle from pre award to closeout.  She currently manages SDAHO grants totaling close to $2 million in funding. She earned her Masters in Business Administration from the University of Sioux Falls, is certified as Project Management Professional and Certified Grants Management Specialist.

Ben Tiensvold, Community Outreach Coordinator, Community Health Worker Collaborative of South Dakota

Ben Tiensvold has served as the Community Outreach Coordinator for the Community Health Worker Collaborative (CHWSD) of South Dakota since January of 2020. In 2015 and 2016, Ben assisted the South Dakota Departments of Health and Social Services in exploring and developing key recommendations for the development of a CHW workforce in South Dakota which later led to South Dakota Medicaid reimbursement for CHW services and the creation of the CHWSD. Ben holds a Bachelor of Communication Studies and Public Relations from Southwest Minnesota State University and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health degree from New Mexico State University.

Brian Bell, Managing Director, FORVIS

Brian Bell is a member of FORVIS’ Health Care Performance Improvement. He has more than 18 years of experience helping health systems, academic medical centers, community hospitals and community health centers grow their organizations through consulting services that include financial, regulatory and reimbursement analysis. Brian’s experience prior to FORVIS includes consulting services with a large international accounting firm and a regional accounting firm.

Brian has extensive experience with the 340B Drug Pricing Program and providing clients with regulatory assistance to improve reimbursement. He has worked with a national IT company to implement 340B split-billing software for hospitals and has led numerous 340B compliance assessments. He has assisted providers with managing their 340B implementations, including registration, vendor selection, software implementation and policy and procedure development and is a frequent speaker on different aspects of the 340B Drug Pricing Program. One of Brian’s focuses is on assisting providers with tackling the opioid epidemic. He has assisted providers with assessing opioid diversion, opioid prescribing trends, opioid policies and procedures and developing a monitoring strategy.

Additionally, he also focuses on revenue cycle transformation, integrity improvement and compliance. He helps providers redesign key revenue cycle processes and structures, review vendor performance, accelerate cash programs and increase management’s accountability tools. Brian is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and also an individual member of 340B Health. Brian is a 2004 magna cum laude graduate of Ohio University, Athens, with a B.S. degree in health services administration.

Brian Blenner, Director of Safety Services, Monument Health

Brian Blenner, BA Criminal Justice / Sociology, MS Leadership and Management. I have recently retired as a Patrol Lt. at the Rapid City Police Department. During that time I have served many roles to include School Liaison, Lead Firearms Instructor, K9 Supervisor, Team Leader Special Response Team Negotiators, and supervisor of the School Liaison Program.  After retirement, (2 days) I started at Monument Health as the Safety Services Director.  This is a unique experience for a Health Care environment as strategies utilized for crime reduction are brought into the health care.

Cassie Nagel, Education & Public Awareness Specialist, Children’s Home Society of South Dakota

As the Education and Public Awareness Specialist with Children’s Home Society of South Dakota’s (CHS) Prevention program, Cassie Nagel provides comprehensive trainings rooted in understanding trauma and recognizing and responding to child abuse. Cassie believes that all children are entitled to a happy and healthy childhood and every adult shares in the responsibilities for creating that reality.

Cassie received her BA degree in Criminal Justice Studies from the University of South Dakota.  In her role with CHS, Cassie trains everyone from parent to professionals in how they can play a part in protecting children and creating safe environments that promote resilience and healing.

Charlotte Steniger, Home Health Care Consultant, Econometrica, Inc.

Charlotte Steniger is a Home Health Care Consultant and has over 20 years of professional experience in the home health care industry as a nurse case manager and clinical educator. Ms. Steniger has worked directly with home health care agencies, assessing their compliance with state and federal regulations, and providing recommendations to improve clinical processes. She develops training and education on various topics relating to home health best practices and related regulation.

Ms. Steniger currently works for Econometrica, a consulting firm that holds multiple CMS contracts.  Over the past 5 years Ms. Steniger has worked on the CMS Post-Acute Care Training (PAC) Project where she has served in multiple roles.  Primarily she develops cross-setting training for the home health, inpatient rehabilitation facility, long-term care facility and skilled nursing facility settings that are a part of the CMS Quality Reporting Program (QRP).  In this role, Ms. Steniger has been selected multiple times as a speaker by CMS to present on changes in program data collection guidance, such as the OASIS E. She has been a certified OASIS Specialist – Clinical since 2006.

Ms. Steniger is a Registered Nurse and holds an MSN in Nursing Education from the University of Hartford. She is also an active member of the CT Association for Healthcare at Home Education Committee.

Additionally, he founded highly rated restaurants including The Greenery and Biloxi Grill, both in suburban Chicago. Fred Fehlinger, BSN, RN, PHRN, EMTP, NASH Healthcare Consulting

Fred Fehlinger is an RN consultant for survey preparedness, on-site support and remediation for hospital, ambulatory healthcare, critical access hospital, long term care and addiction/ substance use programs under The Joint Commission, CMS, DNV and specific Sate programs.

Mr. Fehlinger also has years of expertise in quality, patient safety, infection control, case management, environment of care, emergency preparedness, medical staff, provision of care, patient’s rights, organizational leadership, and process improvement.

Jami L. Johnson, CPA, Director, BKD LLP.

Jami has more than thirteen years of experience in the accounting industry.  As a member of BKD National Health Care Group, she provides accounting and audit services to a variety of not-for-profit and governmental clients, including health care systems, critical access hospitals, research-oriented hospitals, mental health centers, community health centers and for-profit physician practices.

She provides Single Audit compliance testing, which allows not-for-profit organizations to comply with requirements for federal funding.

As a director, Jami leads the client engagement process, supervising and training the audit team, reviewing audit workpapers and communicating with the client, lead audit partner and others in order to provide timely completion of all audit phases.

Jen Canton, SANE Supervisor, Avera Health

Jen Canton is the SANE Supervisor at Avera in Sioux Falls and the project director for two Dept of Justice grants awarded to expand post-sexual assault care to underserved areas. Her team of SANEs provide post-assault care in person to patients at all the Avera facilities in Sioux Falls, as well as to numerous facilities in the upper Midwest states via telehealth. She has been an RN for 16 years; 9 of them as a forensic nurse. She has a Bachelors in the Science of Nursing and a Masters in Forensic Nursing. She is SANE-A and SANE-P certified and has conducted hundreds of medical-forensic exams. She also works for Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis as a forensic nurse and is a member of the Minnehaha/Lincoln County SART team and the SD Statewide Sexual Assault Taskforce.

Jenny Schmidt, CEO, Black Hills Advocate

Jenny Schmidt is a board certified patient advocate and has over 25 years of experience working in the health care field. She has a passion for serving vulnerable people in our community. She is a Rapid City Stevens High School graduate. After graduation, Jenny honorably served in the Navy for four years as a field medical hospital corpsmen stationed with the United States Marine Corps. She went on to attend Elmhurst University in Chicago, graduating with honors with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Professional Communication.

Jeri Lundgren, President, Senior Providers Resource, LLC

Jeri Ann Lundgren, RN, BSN, PHN, CWS, CWCN, CPT has been working in Long Term Care since 1990, specializing in wound care nationally since 1994.  She is board certified as a CWS (Certified Wound Specialist) by the American Board of Wound Management and a CWCN (Certified Wound Care Nurse) by the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Society.  Her extensive background in wound management in long term care nationally includes: survey management, litigation support, wound care consultation, program development, consultant/presenter for several state Quality Improvement Organizations and clinical expert/presenter for several departments of health. Her background also includes 4 years as a Director of Nurses in a Long Term Care facility.  Currently Ms. Lundgren is the President of Senior Providers Resource.

JoLynn Bostrom, Protective Services Program Specialist, Dept. of Social Service Division of Child Protection

JoLynn Bostrom currently serves as the Protective Services Program Specialist for Child Protection Services for the Department of Social Services. She obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Science from the South Dakota School of Mines in Technology in 2002.

JoLynn began her work with the Division of Child Protection Services as a Social Worker/Family Services Specialist on July 8, 2002. She first worked in the Rapid City office and relocated to the Sturgis office in 2004. In August 2007, she was promoted to Lead Family Services Specialist and in January 2009, JoLynn was promoted to Family Services Supervisor, supervising the Sturgis and Belle Fourche offices. In October 2014, JoLynn was further promoted to her current position of Protective Services Program Specialist. JoLynn currently services on the following workgroups: Coordinator for the Justice for Children’s Committee, Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) workgroup, Child Protection Management Team, Comprehensive Safety Invention (CSI) workgroup, Interagency Coordinating Council, and was appointed by the Governor to the CASA Commission Board Member.

John Olaechea, Compliance Assistance Specialist, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

John Olaechea is the Compliance Assistance Specialist for OSHA in Region VIII.  He provides outreach and information about safety and health hazards and OSHA policies and regulations to employers, trade associations, unions, other organizations and the public.  Prior to this position, John worked for eight years as an industrial hygienist and compliance officer for the Englewood Area Office of OSHA and has 20 years of experience in the EHS field.  John also served in the United States Peace Corps (Guatemala) for two years and graduated from Wright State University (Ohio) with a degree in environmental health science.

John Richardson, Director of IPOP and Data Analytics, Iowa Hospital Association

John Richardson is a Director of IPOP and Data Analytics for the Iowa Hospital Association where he is responsible for managing the Dimensions program and is a member of the IHA Data Analytics Team. John also assists with IHA Data services related to quality and patient safety in cooperation with the Iowa Healthcare Collaborative Partnership for Compass HIIN (Hospital Improvement Innovation Network).

Julie Halfpop, Director of Nutrition Services, Martin Brothers Distributing

Julie Halfpop is the team leader of 7 dietitians who provide menu and other value-added services to senior living and healthcare foodservice customers. Passionate about the senior living industry, Julie has devoted almost 35 years to inspiring excellence in dining.  Having managed food & nutrition departments, she challenges her team daily to develop and administer tools and services that will promote successful management of the industry’s opportunities & challenges.  Her favorite topics of conversation revolve around menus, developing marketable dining experiences, controlling costs, and coaching staff.

Karen Cook, RN, Senior Coach & National Speaker, Huron

Karen is a senior coach and national speaker at Huron who has spent more than four decades working in the healthcare industry. Rev. Katherine Olson, Representative, Sad Isn’t Bad

Rev. Katherine Olson has served as the Executive Director of Sad Isn’t Bad since June 2021.  She is a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and has experience accompanying grieving children and their families through her ministry in South Dakota and Ohio.

Kathy Derleth, RN, BSN, CDON, Senior Clinical Account Manager, Real Time Medical Systems

Kathy Derleth holds nearly 40 years of nursing leadership experience within the long-term care industry. As the former chief nursing officer with Bedrock Care, she guided clinical staff and facility nursing leadership on patient-centered care, clinical quality, and regulatory compliance. Kathy is a certified director of nursing and serves as a member of the National Association of Directors of Nursing Administration and the Pennsylvania Health Care Association Quality Committee.

Kathy Matzka, CPMSM, CPCS, FMSP

Kathy is a speaker, consultant, and writer with over 30 years’ experience in credentialing, privileging, and medical staff services. She has worked for 13 years as a hospital medical staff coordinator before venturing out on her own as a consultant, writer, and speaker. Kathy holds certification by the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) in both Medical Staff Management and Provider Credentialing. She is one of the first recipients of the NAMSS Fellow Designation. Kathy Reep, Senior Manager, PYA LLC

Kathy Reep has more than three decades of leadership experience in the healthcare industry. Her hospital setting expertise is in compliance, financial advisory, reimbursement, and managed care. Kathy has helped with Medicare, Medicaid, workers’ compensation, reimbursement, and many other complex programs and issues. She is a thought leader and provider educator, helping hospitals navigate regulations and the impact of change.

Prior to joining PYA, Kathy served as Vice President of Financial Services with the Florida Hospital Association. She also held longtime hospital positions, as well as roles working in patients’ business, internal audit, systems management, diagnostic-related group management, and as a reimbursement director.

Kathy received her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Central Florida and her Master of Business Administration, Healthcare Focus from Rollins College. Kathy is a recipient of the 2019 Bob Broadway Distinguished Service Award from the Florida Chapter of HFMA.

Kevin Rash, Director, FORVIS

Kevin Rash is a member of the FORVIS Health Care Performance Advisory Services division.  He leverages his clinical insight and leadership experience to help health care providers improve their processes, create efficiencies, and navigate major initiatives without costly operational disruptions.  Kevin also assists clients in margin improvement with operational flow, cost structure management, workforce productivity, clinical and operational strategy.  In addition, he has the experience from two specialty hospital builds, an Orthopedic, followed by a Rehabilitation Hospital to create programs to serve communities and population needs. He has multiple surgery center builds and established surgical excellence programs in all settings.

Prior to joining FORVIS, he worked in a variety of provider settings, including hospitals, trauma centers, integrated health systems and physician clinics.  He has more than 25 years of experience in health care, including overseeing a rehabilitation program as a physical therapist and serving as the vice president of operations at a large integrated health care system.  In addition to the daily oversight of surgical services, supply chain, rehabilitation operations, and surgical clinics, including anesthesia.  He was responsible for leading large improvement initiatives for the system.

Kevin shares his industry experience by presenting at various industry events on topics including joint ventures, operational and margin improvement, staffing and workforce of tomorrow, and surgical services excellence.

He is an active member of American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and Missouri State University CRNA Advisory Committee and a past member of the board of directors of Missouri Healthcare Executive Group.  He is board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow (FACHE).

He is a 1991 graduate of The University of Nebraska at Kearney, and a 1993 graduate of Wichita State University, with a Master of Physical Therapy degree.

Kimbery Zachrison, Assistant Attorney General, Office of the South Dakota Attorney General

Kimberly Zachrison was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She began college at Black Hills State University. After two years, she transferred to Dakota Wesleyan University, where she received a BA in History and Criminal Justice with a Minor in American Indian Studies. Kimberly moved to Lansing, Michigan. She attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School. She graduated in January 2009 with a JD emphasis in Litigation. After graduation, she returned to South Dakota where she was admitted to the South Dakota State Bar in 2010.

In June of 2012, Kimberly became the first attorney to be deputized in multiple counties. She became the Deputy State’s Attorney for Beadle, Clark, Hand, Jerauld, Kingsbury, Miner, Sanborn, and Spink counties. In March of 2013, three more counties were added: Brule, Buffalo, and Faulk. In January 2017, three more counties were added: Potter, Sully, and Hyde for a total of 14 counties. She handled Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Stalking and Violation of Protection Order cases under a Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grant. This position is one of a kind for South Dakota. She has appeared in at least 25 counties on behalf of the State.

In 2014, Kimberly attended the National Institute on the Prosecution of Elder Abuse in Washington D.C. With that knowledge, she has prosecuted Elder Abuse crimes throughout her counties. In 2015, she was one of a hundred attorneys selected to attend the National Domestic Violence Symposium in San Diego. At the Symposium, the Domestic Violence White Paper was created and is currently being distributed by the National District Attorneys Association.

In 2019, Kimberly became an Assistant Attorney General. She is the prosecutor for the Elder Abuse and Financial Exploitation Unit. The Unit is comprised of a prosecutor, coordinating investigator, and an analyst. Along with her unit, she assists local law enforcement and local prosecutors with Elder Abuse and Financial Crimes throughout the entire state of South Dakota.

Kristen Bingaman, PT, RYT, NBC-HWC

Kristen is a dynamic and engaging Physical Therapist, Nationally Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, and Registered Yoga Instructor with over fifteen years of experience promoting physical activity, stress management, and healthy lifestyle behaviors. After overcoming multiple rounds of work related burnout she has found her passion in coaching individuals and inspiring healthcare teams to take an active role in their personal well being. She is dedicated to providing validation, education and practical, evidence based strategies to assist with building resilience and reducing burnout rates among healthcare professionals.

Kristi Kranz, SANE Learning Collaborative Coordinator, Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment

Kristi Kranz joined the Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment in 2019 to coordinate an Office on Violence Against Women grant that is referred to as the SD SANE Learning Collaborative program.  In this role, she supports healthcare professionals serving victims of sexual violence by providing training information and resources, fostering a peer-led SANE Learning Collaborative, and facilitating biannual Clinical Skills Labs and quarterly supplemental trainings. She also coordinates the annual Community Response to Child Abuse Conference which brings in more than 500 participants from across the state.  Kristi has a Master’s of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Southwest State University.

Laura Dixon, COPIC

Laura A. Dixon served as the Director, Facility Patient Safety and Risk Management and Operations for COPIC from 2014 to 2020. In her role, Ms. Dixon provided patient safety and risk management consultation and training to facilities, practitioners, and staff in multiple states. Such services included creation of and presentations on risk management topics, assessment of healthcare facilities; and development of programs and compilation of reference materials that complement physician-oriented products.

Ms. Dixon has more than twenty years of clinical experience in acute care facilities, including critical care, coronary care, peri-operative services, and pain management. Prior to joining COPIC, she served as the Director, Western Region, Patient Safety and Risk Management for The Doctors Company, Napa, California.  In this capacity, she provided patient safety and risk management consultation to the physicians and staff for the western United States. Ms. Dixon’s legal experience includes medical malpractice insurance defense and representation of nurses before the Colorado Board of Nursing.

As a registered nurse and attorney, Laura holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Regis University, RECEP of Denver, a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Drake University College of Law, Des Moines, Iowa, and a Registered Nurse Diploma from Saint Luke’s School Professional Nursing, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is licensed to practice law in Colorado and California.

Lea M. Geiser Hayler, CPA, Managing Director, BKD LLP.

Lea has more than 23 years of experience working with nonprofit and health care entities. She provides accounting and audit services to religious organizations, foundations, mental health centers, long-term care facilities, and home health agencies. She also provides Medicare and Medicaid cost report review and consultation services to health care organizations.

She serves as assistant director of accounting and auditing for the Denver and Colorado Springs BKD offices. In this role, she performs the concurring review for many of the nonprofit and health care engagements performed in Colorado. As a managing director, Lea has final review and issuance/signature authority for the firm.

As part of the financial statement assurance process, Lea oversees detailed transaction tests and internal controls structure reviews and analyses. She consults with clients regarding a variety of issues, including debt financing arrangements, entity purchase and consolidation, and new accounting pronouncements.

Leslie Heagy is an OASIS certified Registered Nurse who joined Healthcare Provider Solutions, Inc. (HPS), as the Clinical Services Manager, in June 2017. Leslie is part of the clinical consulting team providing support and solutions to home health and hospice agencies across the country to achieve regulatory compliance.

Megan Arend, RN, Program Development Representative, Avera Long-Term Care Pharmacy

Megan Arend is a nurse and the Program Development Representative for Avera Long-Term Care Pharmacy. She has been with the pharmacy for over seven years, primarily working with long term care facilities in South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska. Megan provides education, customer service and support to the facilities the pharmacy services. She has a special focus on providing quality and service excellence to the facilities and her love for the geriatric population has made her successful within this line of work. Melissa Renes, Prevention Program Manager, SD Dept of Social Services – Division of Behavioral Health

Melissa Renes joined the Division of Behavioral Health Office of Prevention Services in January 2021. In her role as Prevention Program Manager, Melissa works directly with the Prevention Resource Centers and Substance Use and Suicide Prevention Coalitions in the communities and state entities to provide project support, technical assistance, and collaborative concepts for growing prevention efforts in our communities. Melissa obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology through Northern State University in 2001 and is currently in her final year of her Master of Social Work program at Capella University.

Mick Gibbs, CEO, Avera Heart Hospital

Mick has 22 years of experience in health care administration, previously at Rapid City Regional Hospital as President, and before that as its Chief Operating Officer. He has also held senior executive leadership positions at Sanford Health and Gordon Memorial Hospital in Gordon, Neb.

He holds a master of health care administration degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis; a master of biomedical ethics degree from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio; and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks.

He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. His academic responsibilities have been as visiting faculty at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, the University of South Dakota Master’s Program in Health Services Administration as well as adjunct faculty at the University Of North Dakota School Of Medicine. He currently serves as a Clinical Instructor in the Sanford School of Medicine department of Neurosciences & BioEthics.

Has been the chair of the American Heart Association Heart Walk 12 times in three different communities.  He has been a Hospice Volunteer, and is currently a board member at the Children’s Home Society.

Currently, she is co-project director of a statewide network which is working to improve knowledge of palliative care in nursing students, healthcare professionals, and the community throughout the region. Dr. Mollman is leading a study to adapt and test an early palliative care intervention for rural patients with advanced cancer and their family caregivers.
