Debra has an extensive healthcare background in nursing, working in many states across the country as well as overseas, as her husband was in the military. Most of her experience has been in acute care settings, cardiac, neuro and interventional radiology. In addition, Debra has worked in clinic settings, long-term care, and worked with the space shuttle program for NASA. For the past 12 years Debra worked at Monument Health in Rapid City, with 10 of those in Nursing Professional Development. Debra has also worked with high fidelity simulation, nursing student clinicals, clinical enrichment programs for nursing students and is certified in Nursing Professional Development. With her nursing and educational background Debra is excited to be a resource for SDAHO members. “I want to know what their needs are. I understand what it is like to be at the bedside of patients and residents and how the day can get away from you and doing research can be hard. I hope members know I am a resource they can call upon and ask me those questions.”
Debra is a strong believer in lifelong learning, even returning to college as an adult to earn her advanced degree and certification. They were living overseas when her husband retired from the military, and he told Debra she could pick their next location to live. They chose to come back to the United States and call the Black Hills of South Dakota home.
When not serving the members of SDAHO, Debra enjoys spending time with her family, their rescue dog, Penny, and the beautiful outdoors.
