Governor Noem and Legislators Reach Budget Deal

South Dakota healthcare providers, education, and state employees are poised to receive a 2 percent inflationary pay raise.

According to Governor Noem, stronger ongoing revenue was one of three things whichĀ helped bring the raiseĀ to fruition.Ā The other two were less financial strain on state social services and freezing the increase in the state maintenance budget at just 1.6 percent.

The governor also said that a deal has been reached with the Legislature to fully fund the hemp production program at the level she said is needed at $3.5M.

The fiscal year 2021Ā budget items are practically a done deal and clear up major questions as budget negotiations enter the final stages. Lawmakers have until the end of the week to pass a budget, which will take effect in July.ā€‹
