SDAHO Kicks off Year Seven Supporting the WPFL Organ Donation Campaign

SDAHO has been part of the Workplace Partnership for Life Campaign (WPFL) for the past seven years. This Campaign is a national initiative that unites the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the organ donation community with workplaces throughout the nation to spread the word about the importance of donation.

Approximately 1,700 hospitals and healthcare organizations nationwide are working to increase the number of people registered as organ, eye, and tissue donors by participating in the Workplace Partnership for Life Hospital Campaign, a national campaign sponsored by HHS Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Since 2011, healthcare workplaces and hospitals enrolled in the campaign have registered more than 575,000 people as organ donors.

This will be the 10th year for this campaign initiative, which typically runs from October through April.

Despite the challenges faced by those in the healthcare community, 2021 was a successful year for organ donations. 1,659 Hospitals helped add 27,389 Donor Registrations between October 2020 and May 2021

While the nation’s health care community faced unprecedented changes and challenges related to COVID-19, the 2021 Hospital Campaign saw encouraging participation numbers. 1,659 small and large hospitals worked with donation organizations to promote organ, eye, and tissue donation and prompted 27,389 people to sign up to be donors! In the 10 years of the Hospital Campaign, partners have added more than 575,000 donor registrations—increasing the number of organs available for transplantation to improve the lives of others.

Acknowledging the ongoing challenges because of the pandemic, the HRSA Division of Transplantation recognized all 2021 Campaign partners at the platinum level.

SDAHO and LifeSource, the non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives through organ, eye and tissue donation across Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and portions of western Wisconsin, ask for your involvement and support. We invite hospitals to help educate staff members, patients and their families, visitors and the extended community on the critical need for organ donation.
