The South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) has a rich history in our state serving as the voice for hospitals and long-term care facilities statewide. Originally formed in 1926 as the South Dakota Hospital Association, in 1995 SDAHO united both acute and post-acute providers encompassing the full continuum of care. Team SDAHO consists of 14 full-time staff members who serve members through information, education, quality and advocacy efforts. Each SDAHO employee brings a unique skill set and talent to the association, and over the next few months, we will be introducing you to each team member. This week, we introduce you to Tim Rave.
Tim Rave serves as the President and CEO of SDAHO and has done so since 2018. Tim’s main duties and responsibilities include the day-to-day operational needs of the association with his main focus on advocacy and government affairs. During the South Dakota Legislative session, Tim has become a trustworthy voice for members, lawmakers, and citizens when it comes to healthcare issues and pending legislation, as he lobbies on behalf of SDAHO. This position fits him well, as Tim spent 13 years as a state lawmaker, serving as both the Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader. After leaving the legislature, Tim worked for a Sioux Falls healthcare facility where he focused on government affairs.
While Tim is no stranger to advocacy, government affairs and politics –he is also no stranger to healthcare. Tim began his professional career in healthcare on the frontlines as a paramedic and flight paramedic for the Sioux Falls ambulance where he served for 23 years. When Tim speaks on behalf of SDAHO, he knows firsthand the importance of the SDAHO mission and the impact he and the SDAHO Team have in advocating for healthier communities.
When Tim is not working, he enjoys the outdoors, especially snowmobiling in the winter and ATV riding in the warmer months. If he is not busy on the trails, Tim can be found tending to his cattle, which became a passion of his over the past several years.
