SDAHO has announced the upcoming education for November and topics will include mental health issues within South Dakota, the second session of identifying your strengths with a focus on naming weaknesses, and help in identifying learning styles to support new hires.
November 1, 12pm CST | Mental Health First Aid
Presenter, Sydnie Gamroth, will share the barriers to seeking mental health care, signs of depression and will introduce the proper terminology regarding the topic of suicide. This session will go over mental health statistics and the impact of mental health issues, as well as resources related to suicidal ideation. Participants attending this session will understand the prevalence of mental health issues in the United States and within South Dakota.
November 2, 12pm CT | Rediscovering Nursing’s Why
This webinar will explore the questions:
- Why do nurses join the profession of nursing?
- What keeps them in nursing?
- What do nurses see in the future of the profession of nursing?
November 3, 11am CT | Playing to Your Strengths – Part 2
As the follow up to Part 1 of this series, this session will focus on naming our weaknesses and narrowing our scope to better understand how we effectively use this information to improve our work day. When we implement strategies to address our weaknesses, we are more effective in our day and don’t leave feeling drained and depleted. In addition, we will have a follow up conversation on the strengths portion of this topic that we introduced last month.

Hospitals and Critical Access Hospitals have had to comply with EMTALA regulations for over 35 years. Yet, there are increasing number of investigations and escalating civil monetary penalties for non-compliance. This three-part series reviews the basic requirements of EMTALA, examines the most problem prone areas including adequacy of medical screening examinations and appropriate transfers; and recent deficiencies and civil monetary penalties nationwide.
November 10, 10am CT | Pursuing Health Equity through Regulation & Reimbursement
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has made health equity the first pillar of its latest strategic plan. The agency is committed to “designing, implementing, and operationalizing policies and programs [to] eliminate avoidable differences in health outcomes experienced by people who are disadvantaged or underserved.” During this webinar, PYA Principal Martie Ross and Senior Manager Kathy Reep will explain those policies and programs announced by CMS to date and discuss their immediate and future impact on providers.
