The South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) continues to recognize and celebrate Monument Health Spearfish as this month’s Hometown Healthcare Hero member facility and community.
To help member facilities with workforce needs, SDAHO launched the Hometown Healthcare Heroes campaign. This storytelling campaign is designed to recognize career opportunities at member facilities and celebrate the people that work there and the communities they live.
Rachels Hawkins, RN, and Skyler Langer, RN, both grew up in South Dakota and both have chosen Monument Health Spearfish to begin and grow their healthcare careers.

Rachel grew up in eastern South Dakota but as a child often visited her grandparents who lived in the Black Hills. “My grandparents lived here, and I use to love coming out here to visit. Skyler Langer grew up in Spearfish and briefly worked elsewhere for a short time before deciding Spearfish was where he wanted to be.
“The people I work with are close knit and there is always someone willing to help with anything, whether it’s our management, our other co-workers or even doctors. I work with a physician in the emergency room, and he will check people in to the ER, he will play clerk if we are busy in another room.
