CMS Issues New Guidance & Changes to Coverage for the Expiration of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency

On May 1, 2023, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a 23-page memo, QSO-23-13-ALL, for all provider types with guidance for the expiration of the COVID-19 public health emergency set to expire on May 11, 2023. Staff vaccination requirements have been updated to end the requirement that covered providers and suppliers establish policies and procedures for staff vaccination. CMS will share more details regarding ending this requirement at the anticipated end of the public health emergency.  Many other updates are provided in the memo with an immediate effective date, so providers are encouraged to share this memo with staff and be in compliance with the requirements according to the stated timeframes.
