Overview:

One of the most critical components of curbing violence in the workplace is the ability to recognize that there is a threat. This webinar will walk through the key factors that indicate escalating behavior in workplace violence and the resulting action that should be taken. This session will address methods to improve situational awareness and recognize escalating behavior before violence occurs.

Objectives:
  • Describe and detect signs of escalating behavior prior to violence.
  • Develop protocols for responding to and de-escalating pre-violence behaviors.
Presenter: Michael Dunning, VP Public Safety & Emergency Management, ScionHealth

Michael Dunning established The Healthcare Security Consulting Group to help hospitals and other health care facilities create safer environments. Before starting his company, he was vice president of health care operations for the world’s largest security services company. Dunning was the subject-matter expert for health care security operations, supplying oversight for the security programs in more than 800 hospitals and 4,000 health care facilities in the United States and Canada. Dunning is a recognized security and emergency management expert with certifications from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety, the Medical College of Georgia and the International Association for Emergency Managers. He holds an associate degree in law enforcement from The Community College of the Air Force, a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in emergency management from Jacksonville State University. Dunning is a published author and recently published “Workplace Violence in Healthcare: An Evidenced-Based, Holistic Approach to Reducing Workplace Violence.”
