ER costs, training, excessive cleaning costs, technical assistance, medical waste disposal are examples of eligible costs, assuming they are adequately tracked and sufficiently documented. Hospitals are reporting they are electronically assigning staff time and wages, supplies and equipment purchases used to treat patients. Organizations such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will verify timecard information, hourly rates, and payroll information, so lack of documentation NOW may cost your facility.
FEMA announced that it will nationally extend the deadline for individuals and organizations to make a request for public assistance funding. FEMA said the opportunity to apply for public assistance funding will remain open for the duration of the Public Health Emergency as declared by the Health and Human Services Secretary, unless an earlier deadline is deemed appropriate by FEMA.
Hospitals that wish to apply for these funds will be well-served to ensure that those COVID related expenses are appropriately documented per FEMA standards.
