Building the Foundation for a Strong QAPI Program: Understanding Regulatory Requirements

The CMS deadline for Critical Access Hospitals to implement a Quality Assurance Performance
Improvement (QAPI) program is March 31, 2021. Even though CMS has not published the standards in the Conditions of Participation (CoPs) the deadline is fast approaching.

The first part of the two-part series will include a discussion of:
+ Definitions of Quality
+ CMS regulatory requirements for Critical Access Hospitals
+ Steps for developing and executing a QAPI plan that meets the new CMS
regulatory requirements
+ How to prioritize QAPI projects or initiatives
+ Ways to engage the organization Learning Objectives
+ Identify at least one difference between the current quality regulatory requirements and the new QAPI requirements.
+ Review the required CMS prioritization criteria.
+ Identify at least one method of organizational engagement.
