Career Development: Bloom Where You’re Planted Webinar Series

Margaret Sumption, executive coach with over 20 years of experience helping leaders plan, execute and achieve career success, will lead a 3-part webinar series on lessons in career development and coaching.  The three-part series will include:
Session 1 | A Career with Intention | October 3, 12pm CST

For many people, the help-wanted ads drive the career. Need a job, go shopping on the job boards. Have a bad day at work, go shopping on the job boards. Got laid off, get angry, get sad…. Then go shopping on the job boards. This session is designed to help you define a career with intention that builds a competitive advantage in seeking, securing, and growing in the job you desire. Beginning with personal values alignment and vision, this session sets the stage in developing your individualized “career tree” along with some tools to help you prune and define the trajectory and growth of your career.

Session 2 | Getting Out of Your Own Way – Blooming Where You Are Planted | November 2, 12pm CST

Integrating a healthy career with the realities of family, geography, readiness is a juggling act for most of us. Growing without moving from your current role and current employer is achievable. It does demand nimbleness and creativity to successfully navigate that path. This session lays out five scenarios to blooming your career without physically moving and/or changing roles. You will meet Laura, a skilled health administrator who has built a sideline in measuring quality through accreditation. Don, a leader in health care will be showcased providing meaningful work in academia as a sideline to his daily work. We will follow Jennifer as she helps shape the careers of others while acting to promote career opportunities in her own organization. You will also meet John who showcases his talent in paid speaking and training opportunities that act to augment his core career aspirations. Finally, you will meet Molly who researches, writes, and promotes her writing talents as a way to broaden her reach into the world.

Session 3 | Becoming the Employer of Choice – How Organizations Create “Stickiness” for their Workers | December 5, 12pm CST

As a healthcare leader, you likely have some type of one-on-one communication process with your direct reports. Think for a moment about the common things these employees express when you ask them how you, as a leader, can help them. It is likely the most common refrain is “I want to get ahead.” “I want to be recognized for my skills”. “I want to have growth opportunities.” This session showcases the key elements of work environment and culture that are needed to be the employer of choice. Giving people a clear path for growth and recognition within their roles, supporting special project opportunities, and building career progression pathways are key and work in concert with an authentic and transparent culture to be the provider of choice.
