Brookings Health System holds community forum to address opioid epidemic

Brookings Health System hosted two community forums last week to address concerns and answer questions about the opioid epidemic. A group of panelists represented stakeholders concerned about this topic within the Brookings community.  The panel focused discussions on a three-pronged approach including prevention and prescribing, addiction and treatment and diversion and disposal. Listen to a short radio spot on Brookings Radio or watch a video.

The forum was part of an Opioid Guardianship project that Brookings Health System has been engaged with over the last several months. Brookings Health System is a member of the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) and, along with 42 other South Dakota hospitals, is participating in the Iowa Healthcare Collaborative (IHC) Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN), which is known as the COMPASS HIIN. HIINs are guiding more than 4,000 hospitals across the United States in the continued reduction of harm and is funded by a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) grant.

Anyone interested in holding a similar community forum should email SDAHO staff Jennifer Kok, Improvement Advisor, or Kristen Bunt, Director of Quality Integration.
