The National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP) was created to address the increasing burden of type 2 diabetes. The Program focuses on behavior changes related to healthy eating and physical activity. Research has shown that its participants can reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58% (71% for people over 60 years of age). For more information on the National DPP visit: https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/prevention/index.html
With the introduction or expansion of a Diabetes Prevention Program, healthcare organizations can adjust the sails in these winds of change to help your patients choose healthy now. The SD Diabetes Prevention and Control Program along with Emory Center’s Diabetes Training and Technical Assistance Center are offering Virtual Lifestyle Coach Training for anyone interested in leading a new or current National Diabetes Prevention Program in South Dakota.
