Sen. Rounds introduces IHS audit bill

U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds on Tuesday introduced a bill to provide for a comprehensive audit of the Indian Health Service (IHS). Rounds' bill would require the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to use existing funds to contract with an independent firm to assess the state of IHS.

House committee advances certified professional midwives bill

The House Health and Human Services Committee on Tuesday advanced a bill to permit and regulate the practice of licensed certified professional midwives. Senate Bill 136, which previously passed the Senate, was approved on a 9-3 vote and now heads to the House floor.

CMS projects 5.6% annual national health expenditures growth through 2025

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Civil Rights, has finalized a regulation that implements nondiscrimination provisions enacted as part of the Affordable Care Act of 2010. Payroll Based Journal Reporting

Effective July 1, 2016, care centers must electronically submit to CMS complete and accurate direct care staffing information, including information for agency and contract staff, based on payroll and other auditable data according to specifications established by CMS. This new system is called Payroll-Based Journal (PBJ).

2012 Edition of NFPA 101 Life Safety Code

CMS has adopted the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) 2012 edition of the Life Safety Code (LSC) as well as provisions of the NFPA’s 2012 edition of the Health Care Facilities Code. The 2012 LSC includes important changes from the 2000 edition of the LSC.

The IMPACT Act mandates a quality reporting program for Medicare Home Health Agencies utilizing OASIS data. Quality measure domains are Skin Integrity, Medication Reconciliation, Resource Use, Functional Status/Cognitive Function, Incidence of Major Falls and Patient Health Information and Preference.
