House passes certified professional midwives bill

The South Dakota House on Wednesday passed a bill to permit and regulate the practice of licensed certified professional midwives. Senate Bill 136 passed on a 52-16 vote. A two-thirds margin was required because the bill contained an appropriation.

SD Legislature passes bill establishing rate-setting methodology

The South Dakota House has passed a bill establishing a rate-setting methodology for services delivered by community-based health and human services providers. Senate Bill 147 passed Tuesday on a 61-6 vote. The bill previously passed the Senate, but the Senate will need to agree to significant changes after the House Health and Human Services Committee "hoghoused" the bill by replacing all its original language.

SD Legislature approves FY 17 budget with $37M in reductions

The Joint Appropriations Committee of the South Dakota Legislature has has approved the FY 17 amended budget with a reduction of $37 million. The House and Senate are expected to vote on the measure on Friday.
